Context information

After removing blocks 4 and 5, the whole room D is excavated down to the level where the 2007 excavation halted. At this level, the room is divided into 5 new blocks (7-11), of which block 7 comprise the SE part. As a floor level are likely to soon appear, the excavation is carefully done in a thin layer down to a level where soil seems to be harder. 13/5: Removing soil in ca 4 cm layer. Block contains less finds than adjacent blocks and the soil is more coarse and lumpy. In SE corner of block a feature of large stones with levelled, flattened surfaces, forming a semi-circle become visible. The feature, labeled feature 20, is probably best interpreted as a support or stand for a large storage vessel. 14-15/5:No excavation in area. 16/5:Continue removing block. The soil contains lots of rather large pieces of charcoal, specifically in SE corner of matrix unit I25, immediately E of the feature in the same unit and more or less exactly below (at a lower level) the concentration of murex shells in block 4. Since feature 15 in I25 seems to be built at different levels, the two small slabs forming the E definition of the feature is removed.
